Installing Desktop Connect

Desktop Connect is a lightweight agent that runs on employee workstations, collecting activity metadata for the Prodoscore platform. This page covers all available installation paths and links to the detailed guide for each one.

Before You Begin

Admin portal access: You need login credentials for the Desktop Connect admin portal to download installers. Your Prodoscore Customer Success contact provides these during onboarding.

Do not rename the installer file. The filename contains your organization’s unique security token. Renaming it causes installation to fail.

Network access: The agent requires outbound HTTPS (port 443) to Prodoscore cloud endpoints. If your organization uses a firewall, proxy, or web security suite, see Network and IT Requirements for the full list of domains and IPs you need to allow.

System requirements: Confirm your devices meet the minimum hardware and OS requirements before deploying. See Windows System Requirements for Windows devices.

Windows Manual Installation

Desktop Connect on Windows supports both a standard (visible) and stealth (silent) installation. The standard installer is an EXE that can be deployed manually or pushed through MDM, RMM, or Group Policy. The stealth variant uses a separate EXE for environments where the agent should run without a user-facing presence.

macOS

Desktop Connect on macOS is delivered as a PKG installer. Because macOS requires explicit user consent for Accessibility and Screen Recording permissions, silent deployment through an MDM is the recommended approach. See the MDM Deployment Guides section below for platform-specific walkthroughs.

Desktop Connect ships in two architecture variants: Apple Silicon (M1, M2, M3, M4) and Intel. Download the correct variant for your fleet from the admin portal. If your fleet includes both architectures, download both and scope each to the appropriate device group in your MDM.

Two .mobileconfig profiles are required for silent macOS deployment. These pre-approve permissions so end users see no security prompts. They must be deployed through your MDM before or at the same time as the PKG installer.

  • Permissions (PPPC) profile: Grants Accessibility access and suppresses Screen Recording prompts.
  • Notifications profile: Silences the “Background Items Added” system alert on first launch.

Contact support@prodoscore.com to request both profile files.

Important: If your organization does not use an MDM for Macs, the end user will need to manually approve Accessibility and Screen Recording permissions in System Settings > Privacy & Security after installation.

MDM Deployment Guides

For enterprise and MDM-managed deployments, use the platform-specific guide below. Each guide includes step-by-step instructions for silent installation, pre-install scripts, configuration profiles (macOS), and post-install verification.

Microsoft Intune (Windows and macOS):

Covers both Windows (.msi with /qn silent install) and macOS (.pkg with pre-install script). Includes instructions for suppressing toast notifications on Windows, deploying PPPC and Notifications profiles on macOS, handling the Intune file rename issue, and removing Qt framework entries from detection rules.

Jamf Pro (macOS):

Covers configuration profile deployment, PKG upload, pre-install script creation, Smart Groups for Apple Silicon vs. Intel, and policy creation. Jamf Now is not supported.

For other MDM platforms (Mosyle, Kandji, SCCM) or RMM/Group Policy deployments, contact support@prodoscore.com for guidance specific to your tool.

Verification

After any installation method, confirm the deployment was successful:

1Log in to the Prodoscore Desktop Connect Admin Console.
2Navigate to the Devices or Users list.
3The newly deployed device should appear within a few minutes of installation completing.

If the device does not appear within 15 minutes, verify the installer filename was not modified and that configuration profiles (macOS) were deployed before the PKG. For Windows, see Windows Installation Validation for detailed process-level checks.
